LLS and Soria Environmental
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) is a well-known and established charity that has been fighting blood disease for over 70 years. LLS was created after the founder’s son died from Leukemia in 1944. His diagnosis and subsequent death lead Rudolph and Antoinette de Villiers to find a cure. While their vision has not yet been realized, their tireless efforts in advancing medicine concerning blood diseases has led to a substantial increase in survival rates. At the time of Robert Roesler de Villiers’ passing, Lymphoma and leukemia were a death diagnosis. Now days, adults have a 45-55% chance of long-term survival, while children are looking at a 70-90% survival rate.
Today, LLS is working towards innovating how we diagnose and treat blood cancers by incorporating innovations such as the BioIntelliSense BioSticker and the advent of the Chimeric Antigen Receptor T cell therapy (CAR-T therapy). The Biosticker is a revolutionary way to take information form patient on trial test and in current immunotherapies regarding information such as heart rate, breath rate, temperature, glucose monitoring and many other ways treatment can affect a patient, making it easier for healthcare workers to better tailor your treatment to you. CAR-T therapy is really a revolutionary way of tackling cancers at their core by using your own body’s immune system against these invasive cells. Basically, a white blood cell is modified to create one that is specifically designed to attack the cancer cells. While it is still in the infancy of this treatment, it shows promising development for the future. Cancer is relentless and it does not discriminate. My family and I have endured loss caused by Leukemia more than once. From a young cousin to the family patriarch, cancer has shaken us to our core. No more! When my grandfather was admitted to what would be his last hospital visit, I saw my aunts, uncles, mother, and father breaking. Figures who throughout my life always exemplified strength and courage were now understandably collapsing. I felt helpless, I wanted to do more to help but I didn’t know where to turn.
From mold and water remediation, to supporting our community threw charities we are personally invested in, you can count on Soria Environmental to be there. You can help support our efforts by donating now at the link below.
